Building Platforms and Workflows
Building generative UI also meant building the product around it. The interface could adapt in real time, but teams still needed practical tools to access the infrastructure, create agents and bring them into production.
Console managed OpenUI Cloud, while Agent Builder made agents easier to build and deploy.
Console
We built Console to manage the infrastructure behind accessing OpenUI Cloud through APIs. It brings the standard controls teams expect from a cloud platform into one place.
Teams can manage API keys, billing, usage and organizations without leaving the product. Observability is coming next, making it easier to understand what agents are doing and where something needs attention.

Agent Builder
Agent Builder began inside Console as a playground where developers could test the OpenUI Cloud API. As the same workflows kept recurring, that testing ground evolved into a standalone product designed for people with little or no coding experience.
People can connect databases, apps, files, websites and tools, define an agent's behaviour, test it in a live preview and customise its appearance. Once ready, the agent can be published as a standalone application, shared through a link or embedded inside another product.
The metrics evolved with the product. We began by tracking how many organizations were creating agents and how many agents they made, then focused on whether people could carry an agent through to deployment.

Canvas
Canvas was our first step toward building a tool for generative UI. We started by trying to make it the best way to design and prototype AI agents. Instead of specifying an agent screen by screen, teams assembled the workflow and interface together from modular pieces on a shared canvas.
We brought design, development and Decode—analytics—into one product. Teams could generate conversation flows, preview interactions, export front-end code and use Insights to understand sessions, query patterns and card-level engagement.
We eventually realised that getting generative UI into production meant starting with the developer workflow and driving adoption there. We sunset Canvas, and the ideas and systems behind it led to the birth of OpenUI.
